Forty Percent Proposed Federal Spending Cut of MacDill Air Force Base Threatens Hurricane Storm Science Missions Despite Their Continued Improvement.
Federal House Appropriations Committee proposes to decrease funding from $29 million to $17 million at MacDill Air Force Base, Tampa, Florida which includes the 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron.
Current director of the National Hurricane Center in West Miami-Dade, Bill Read says, "We don’t have any other way to go about doing this," when discussing the critical importance of research and data collection by the Tampa based team.
